Welcome to Clark's Dining Room I hope you will enjoy your home-cooked meal and will let me share with you some of our history. In 1918 my grandfather and grandmother arrived in Jacksontown from Buckeye Lake, Ohio and bought the historic old hotel on the corner of Routes 13 and 40. It originally was a stagecoach stop on the National Highway, which stretched from coast to coast. It housed a dining room, bar, pool hall, barbershop and 13 sleeping rooms. They named it Clark's Hotel. It was home to the family and to the people who worked for them until 1929 when they built a family home to the west of the hotel. Though my grandfather died in 1933, my grandmother and several dedicated employees continued to operate the hotel. On Labor Day, 1954, the old white clapboard hotel burned to the ground. Though Grandma Clark was 78 years old she wanted to rebuild a dining room and continue to serve fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and homemade pies as she had been doing for 36 years. Rebuild she did and operated the restaurant for another 12 years until she was 90. She died in 1973 at the age of 97. Upon her death her son and daughter, Ray Clark and Thelma Bounds, continued to operate the Dining Room. As a third generation Clark, I hope to carry on the traditions of good food and family service passed down over the last 70 years by my grandmother and such longtime employees as Florence Orr, Grace Wilson and Pat Davis. Thanks for stopping in - we will do everything we can to make your visit enjoyable. Your Host, ![]() Tom Clark 740.323.3874 |
